I really don't see why people care so much about records. Its not like records are really accurate at all. Yea this guy hit 62 home runs. This guy hit 80. They didn't face teh same pitching. They didn't play in the same ballparks. They didn't have the same supplements. Therefore you can't compare them. Stats are so flawed its not funny. Records are a joke. People take them to seriously.

I agree to an extent. However, record chases are good for sports in general and they're very exciting, so I love it when they take place.

My problem with records are the roided up records done in baseball the last few years. In fact, between roided monsters cracking baseballs half a mile, I propose we extend the outfield fence another 100 yards to compensate. And since basketball has become a game of genetic giants, lets raise the hoop another 6 feet so they can't just walk up and drop the ball in. And just to make things fun in football, the linemen and running backs need to trade places. I'd love to see a 370 pounder run deep for a Hail Mary pass--might take him 5 minutes to get downfield if he doesn't have a heart attack. :)

Yeah, that's funny. You're creative. Here's a good article about baseball and the steroids situation:

the roid arguement in baseball is meaningless. if roids made that much of an impact hitting a homerun. then basically you morons are saying cripple h could be the new babe ruth.

it still takes skill to hit a curveball.

true, but in such a game of inches, any boost of power whatsoever is a definite advantage.

you got b-level type of players on the **** making no difference. all sports involve a type of steiroid, or supplement. all because a black man took the single season homerun record, the whiteys cant let him become the greatest hitter of all time. when the record was mark mcgwires, the steiroid **** wasnt heavily cried about. but now that its not his record, protests from congress happen.

good example of this is when sosa and mcgwire were neck and neck in the homer race. mcgwire was hand fed last 4 homers to beat sosa.

That's a false cliche argument.

Steroids gives you more power. Balls that would normally be pop flys to the outfield become homeruns which raise the average, homerun, rbi, and run totals of the hitter. So a 220 slugger can boost his average to 290 by simply converting those pop flys to homers like McGwire did.

Heck they could move the fences in to 2 feet from Home Plate and then Ichiro would be hitting .900 and getting 648 Homers a season.

Baseball records aren't very impressive to begin with...

Everyone knows McGwire was on roids, and everyone knows that Bonds was on roids...

Everyone knows that their records shouldn't mean as much as they do because of that...

If McGwire or Sosa had been linked to a HUGE steroid scandal like Bonds has been when they had their big Home Run race then it would have been a big deal.
