Silva in his post-fight interview on Sherdog states, in closing, that he believes Shogun will be the fighter to take his place. i found this kinda shocking considering they're competing in the same tournament. i don't mean this as a jab at Silva's integrity, as he seems very sincere and humble, but does this mean he intends to lose or thinks he will lose if he and Shogun were to meet in the finals? would silva not fight and make Pride call in their reserve fighter? a curious testimonial to a truly great young fighter who in his last two fights has performed unbelievably against 2 of the world's finest 205lb mma fighters.

I think he means, in the long run, Shogun's going to be the next number one. Silva's too competitive to just bow out of a tournament, regardless of who he's fighting.

It serves two purposes:

1: It gives confidence to his teammate: The Shogun.

2: If he loses to Shogun by some chance, he can always say that his assessment was right.

OR

He gets his ass kicked in sparring by Shogun everyday. And he knows it.
I read Silva saying that he's been KOed many times in practice. I figure Shogun must be responsible for alot of them.

As I have posted in a few other threads I think Shogun, especially if he wins it all here will be the future of LHW. This is definately the best LHW group of all time, and possibly the youngest.

Nog (x2), Shogun, Overeem, Silva, Arona, Liddell, Sobral, Couture, Horn, Kharitonov, Van Arsdale

I am sure there are many more also that aren't as elite as the ones above. Even though a few of these guys above have some loss's they seem to be fighting at thier peaks with probably the exception being Couture.

I'll bet Silva delivers his share of KOs in practice.
