Anyone here a fan of System of a Down?

I just caught them as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live...two weeks ago. I had heard of them, but never head them before. I like what I hear so far.

I've picked up their Toxicity album, love it. They have a new album coming out in two days, Mezmerize.

I could never get into their hybrid style of speed metal and Armenian folk music.

I've been a fan since their seft-titled debut. I'll definately be checking out Mezmorize on Tuesday and the second half of the double album, Hypnotize, this fall.

Hi all, recently joined the board and might as well break the duck by posting.

S.O.A.D..?

Their particular take on metal really appeals to me, not heard their first album yet but am very familiar with "Toxicity" and "Steal This..".
I find their music quite enthralling, it's interesting how with so many metal based hybrid bands down the years, they still manage, to my ears at any rate, to come across as highly original in many of their songs, I hope they continue to experiment and expand as they go along.
I'm looking forward to hearing more from them, should be good.

Fantastic band. Excellent vocals, excellent rhythm guitar, amazing drummer. Don't take themselves too seriously so there's a comical aspect to their music which I love (listen to needles on toxicity). First album good, toxicity even better, Steal this album not as good as toxicity but good. I've had my guitar tuned down two whole tones and the bottom e down another for months just so I can play Chop Suey!

Lol, the Toxicity album has me thinking about buying a new home stereo. As of now I have to go to the car to hear it loud and clear.

I really like some of their songs. Chop Suey! is awesome. I'm looking forward to their new album.

As an aside: System of a Down and Rob Zombie have the best strip joint music

Ha ha nice one, but at least in the car you can get away with singing along as loud as you can! Let out some pent up agression hehe. You should download some of the clips on e-mule. There's a fantastic version of the song "toxicity" live at, em, "big day out" i think if my memory serves, where he rants at the end about the state of the modern world, if that doesn't get you're adrenaline flowing nothing will! Toxicity is for sure one of the best (speed)metal albums I've heard, and not just recently.

It's good to see a number of other members enjoy 'System..' as well.
If I had any problem with the band, it would be that a lot of their material is 'too' addictive.
It's not easy trying to get to sleep at night with one of their numbers playing on an endless loop in your head.
But other than that, no complaints.

I'm also a fan but I've kinda lost intrest in them after Toxicity. Self titled album is imo better...

Picked up the new disc. I'm 2 tracks in and already impressed.

SOAD and Andrew W.K. are just about the only modern rock acts that can hold my attention right now. Rock has been so dead for the past few years. It's refreshing to actually be excited about a new guitar-driven album from a band that came around more recently than the mid-90's.

My only complaint about this new SOAD so far is that it, like most new albums, suffers from too much dynamic compression. If you know what that means, I'm sure you agree with me. And if you don't know what it means... ever notice how most new rock and pop music tends to hover around the same steady volume level all the time, no matter how hard the band is rocking out and no matter how grandiose the chorus is?

System is the best heavy band right now...

I haven't been amazed by an album like this in years.

I think they have awesome songs, but **** it all up with some gay as squeel or something weird...It suck because i think o this is god, then I dont want to hear part of the song, good band though, i guess.

Best Metal band by a landslide...if, they are in fact metal. Whatever they are, it's great. The new stuff is excellent. Especially BYOB, Cigaro, and Violent Pornography.

I'm seriously digging all of this album top to bottom...

I like what they do with the dual vocals.

No doubt. Giving Darren more of a role in vocals helps their sound overall.

I'm still not sure about it, there's some excellent moments on it but can't help comparing it to toxicity. I like Darren's vocals (some sections they fit in perfectly) but they tend to dominate, which I don't think is so good since his voice is not as strong. Some bits seem like there's excellent backing vocals with a not so good lead vocal. Maybe that's just me I dunno.
It is growing on me though. Anyone else like it, still like it, getting to like it?
Plus, damn you destro for mentioning the dynamic compression thingy I can't help noticing it now. ;)

Picked up Mesmerized and I can say that It's not bad. IMHO better than steal this album, but worse than Toxicity and SOAD. I like Cigaro and radio/Video
