WEC 29/August 5: Doerksen/Filho, Condit/Larson

Card as it stands:

Paulo Filho vs. Joe Doerksen
Carlos Condit (c) vs. Brock Larson
Eric Schambari vs. Logan Clark
Jeff Curran vs. Stephen Ledbetter

Filho/Doerksen is a good matchup and a good way to introduce Paulo to the North American audience. Paulo should win, but Doerksen is still a live dog and won't allow Filho to lay down on him and take a nap. Therefore, Paulo can win and not look boring (thanks to El Dirte) at the same time.

Condit/Larson is a REALLLY good matchup. I was pumped for this before it was postponed, and it's still awesome. Could be a FOTY candidate IMO.

The WEC continues to impress me. At first I figured they would be a feeder organization for the UFC, but they are doing well on their own. I hope the success continues, because I have seen some great MMA from the WEC.

I'm definitely looking forward to both those fights! Although Filho/Doerkson does have the potential to be a slow fight. Not sure that Doerkson can remain active on the bottom with Filho doing his hugging routine. Paulo hasn't always shown a propensity to posture up and force the action.

Hopefully after Filho gets a couple wins in the WEC he will come to the UFC. Now if we could only get Kang to rethink his terrible decision signing with Bodog we would get to see who is the best MW in the world.

Joe was pretty active on the bottom against Lindland, so I'd think he could keep his game going against Filho.

I'm pumped about this card, too. It should be a good one. Like Loot and many others have said, the more I watch the WEC the more and more I like it. With all the talk about Dana White killing off Pride and being a **** head prick and all that, what about some props for turning a nothing organization into an action packed one? And seriously, Mir, you're an awesome commentator please stop trying to do anything other than that! The insight he brings to thse of us who don't exactly know the ins and outs of grappling is super helpful. I'm almost getting to like the WEC commentating duo more than the UFC duo...maybe they should flip them.
