THOMAS INJURY UPDATE

Not all of the news out of last night’s UFC Fight Night was good for its competitors. Port St. Lucie, Florida’s Din Thomas, 30, injured his knee in the main event while attempting to shoot in on opponent Ken Florian. The American Top Team lightweight was taken to a local hospital for an MRI and has had his leg placed in a brace while he awaits results, said an ATT rep this morning. Initial diagnosis points to a torn MCL and/or ACL and the need for surgery.

rough deal. he'll be out a while if that is the case.

Props to Din for not tapping immediately. He was out of the fight as soon as he blew his knee. I saw it during the fight when it happened but I wasn't sure if he just slipped or what happened until he was turtled up and holding his knee. Sucks for him too. He was on a good comeback streak.

Din is a good fighter, he'll be back. Sucks that such an interesting fight came to an abrupt end, though. And yeah, Din is the man for not tapping out right away.

Props to Din for not tapping as well, but this is what I saw happe last night...

1) Din gets frustrated at Florian backpedaling, so he mocks him...

2) Florian immediately responds by shooting in hard for the takedown

3) Din gets back up lookinf frustrated

4) He gets a little overzealous and tries to shoot in aggressively in order to respond to the previous takedown...

5) He blows out his knee....

It looked like Florian might have gotten inside his head a bit.....Din seems like a good guy, but he has a tendency to get cocky/mouthy sometimes, and I think his inability to remain calm and focused cost him...

That is what I immidiately thought ... It wasn't a freak accident. Din was getting frustrated with Kenny's speed/timing/gameplan which lead to him forcing the shot that blew out his knee.

I would go as far as saying that this fight shot Kenny up in rankings. I would probably list him at #7 or 8 LW in the world, atm.

Exactly. Din was showboating by turning his back on Florian with his gay rabbit trot. That enraged Florian and Florian unleashed his Kenny Florian power on Din.

This is a fight, you have to take it seriously. It's just like when Nakamura decided to try to be cool and take his Gi off agaisnt Silva. What happened? He got pwned.
