Murilo protests his fight at Pride
BTT press-releaser has just announced in first hand that Murilo Bustamante has just protested his fight against Dan Henderson at Pride. He wants to cancel the fight result. Murilo says Henderson used his head to hit him. "I was fine during the fight and then he hit me with the head and I felt and when I was putting myself together to put Henderson in my guard, the referee ended the fight. Due to the illegal blow and due to the way the referee stopped the fight I just entered a resource to cancel the fight result," revealed the UFC Champion Murilo still from Japan.

If there was any contact of heads it was purely accidental and could as easily be contributed to Bustamante, but I sure didn't see any. It doesn't surprise me that he would whine though, the Brazillians are better at bitching than fighting!

wow shamrocked, that's harsh. I was wondering how Busta could go down so fast and I'm starting to believe that it was a headbutt.

i thought the stoppage was a little premature, but maybe the ref saved busta from some serious damage. hendo was throwing bombs and busta was sitting on his ass. busta should take it like a man and move on. it was hendo's night that night.
It was Hendersons' night that night. When you watch the quickness of Rampages' punches, Vanderleis' punches, Dan's Punches were just as quick and ferocious.

Bustamente is a bitch. Protests like this hurt the reputation of MMA. I now hate Bustamente.
Besides, there have been many more suspect fights more deserving of protests than this one.
To me it looked like Bustamente was rocked (if it started with an accidental headbutt too bad). "About to put him in my guard"??? Give me a break. He was sitting there defenseless and seemingly unaware of what was happening. The ref made a good decision.

i actually did see a headbut. but i will tell you this, it was an accident. AN ACCIDENT. I saw henderson shooting, then bustamante going down, and got hit in the chin by hendersons head on the shoot. it is hard to tell, but i tell you it was an accident.

Riddle me this Batman, in an organization that allows soccor kicks to a fallen fighter on the ground, who cares about a little head butt? My point on this is that they should ban soccor kicks--too dangerous.
I didn't see a blatant headbutt but will have to go back and rewatch the fight to double check. Dan isn't the type to dirty trick a headbutt win. I think it was the knee and punches that made Busta see stars. Protesting this fight really does come across as poor form; a better tact would be to challenge Dan to a rematch.
One of the few situations where fights are overturned is when the winner fails a drug test. Randy could have protested Barnetts win due to the steroid test and he would have got that loss erased, but he didn't as he felt he lost the fight regardless. Busta needs to accept the loss and challenge again because he is a competitor that can hang with Dan. He just ate a knee that ended it early. Could have easily been the other way around and I doubt Dan would be filing protests.

i hope busta doesn't start with this ****. I havent seen the event but from what I've heard, Henderson beat the **** out of him.
Creampuff, Dan was all over Busta like a swarm of bees and he was scrambling big time when his lights got switched off. It was fast.
If Dan had come out slow, then it probably would have been the long drawn out judges decision most expected. But he came out like a house a fire and ate Bustas lunch.

i want to make clear that i don't think that bustamante should contest the loss. as i said before, he was hit by an accidental headbut, but it didn' knock him out. Mike/Cbear is right, he ate some knees that did him in. Bustamante just needs to sac up and accept the loss

lol @soccar kicks
Anyone notice how amped and adrenaline rushed Dan was after the win when he runs around the ring, but when he gets to Bustamonte, his (spirit of being a good winner)hit him and he acted all sincere and humble.
I thought it was great. It showed me that he is very hungry, very excited to prove something, yet a classy winner.Team quest represents.

Bustamante got Busted by a knee to the head and was sitting
there getting smoked. Hands were by his side and he was staring into space!!! I taped the event and watched it in slow motion.
Dan Henderson to Murilo: "Here is my knee....look at the stars!"
Protest? C'mon man.

Yeh, D241, I thought that was awesome when Hendo parked himself for a second to check on Busta too. That tells me concern for others is serious to him, and he's a hell of a cool guy. And he didn't act like he was stopping to shake hands for formality's sake. I wish nothing but success for somebody like that. When his fighting career is over he'll have alot of honor, and alittle right here right now.

Okay, first I have to say -- GO HENDERSON!!!! Woohoo! I was soooo happy that he won. He was looking good and pressing the fight for the short bit it went on. I knew he would win, but I never guessed it would happen so quickly!
Regarding the 'headbutt' -- it was clearly accidental. Dan is not a dirty fighter, as some as you have pointed out by his post fight behavior, he's a very good sportsman and respectful of his opponents.
If anything the 'headbutt' was a mutual clash of heads due to Busta shooting and Dan leaning in to defend. If you watch the replay, it's hard to see and it looks like Busta catches more of Dan's shoulder than head anyway. I'm sure fighters clonk each other all the time in similar fashion and don't complain about it. I know I've kneed and elbowed people in the head in my grappling class by accident - stuff just happens!

Nice pics...right after that he swallows a knee to the head and goes down like a sack of potatoes.
He even gave props to Henderson at the end of the fight when Dan walks by. You can tell he's disappointed, but it is not like he was in an uproar over the decision.
Weak. Come on Murilo.

Yeah, I agree -- it was the knee that put Busta out, for sure. I would imagine that there must be some extenuating circumstances that have 'caused Busta to protest, kind of like McGee contesting the Sylvia fight so he can keep his UFC contract. Maybe there's some kind of contractual thing going on, or he's just trying to keep his marketability from being tarnished due to two losses in a row...

Henderson won as I knew he would. Busta has kind of lost it since his fight with Rampage Jackson.

I didn't see any headbutt although when Henderson sprawled they never did have a good camera angle live or on replay - which is rare for Pride as their camera angles/replays are usually extraordinary.
What you can see - and HEAR - is the left knee landing right on Murilo's chin - more precisely on his upper lip or between the upper lip and nose and Bustamante was done. It was perfect camera angle live as they switched and you could see/HEAR this perfectly. Henderson did seem to throw him down quite easily so I'm not ruling out an accidental clash of heads, though I didn't see it.
The description of Henderson's prancing almost all the way around the ring like Chuck Lidell usually does after a victory was bang-on. He got to where Bustamante was down and stopped clearly mouthing "You OK?". Murilo was so out of it he didn't want to shake Henderson's hand as he may've thought the fight was still on. The ref raised Henderson's hand while keeping himself between the downed Bustamante and Dan. The Pride refs usually do a very very good job (the Yoshida "choke" on Gracie is a glaring exception). Good job Pride refs, great job Dan Henderson!

This is a little off topic but reading Ring Girls remark about McGee made me think of a question.
Do any of you here really think McGee belongs in an MMA ring? I mean...granted...I've seen just two of his fights...the one with Sylvia and the one they brodcasted before the show...the fighter he fought I can't recall...maybe Rizzo?
Anyway...in the fight DISH was showing before UFC 44 started...I was watching McGee going..."This is the guy who is going to fight Sylvia?"
I mean really...to me,it shows how weak the UFC's heavyweight division is. I mean I hoenstly feel that most people on this board and most people on the streets with some fighting experience could beat that clown. All you have to do is put his size out of your head...use your speed to your advantage and let him have it. He has NO defense. His hands are at his side waiting to get tagged...thats exactly what happened to him when he fought Sylvia.
To me,right now,McGee is the Tank Abbott of 2003 MMA fighting...except even Tank in his prime was better than McGee.
Maybe its just me.

There's no point for Busta to continue to pursue this protest. There's no way he's getting this loss erased from his record.

Murilo said he's been offered to fight on the Dec 31 card. He wanted to rest but seems to imply that he would accept a fight if it were a rematch against Hendersen. That'd be good!

I would like to see a rematch. I doubt the result would be the same when it comes to time, but I think Henderson would still win in a hard fought match.

By the sounds of it, Murilo is ready for another beating! Honestly though, I'm just about ready to call Bustamante a has-been.

'nuf said :evil:Sorry about that Brazuca. I have much respect for you as well. I was probably out of line, and I didn't mean to offend anyone (with the possible exception of Bustamante). I just get very angry when I read about poor sportsmanship, and it seems like if it's not the Gracies it's Noguiera or Bustamante crying about some injustice rather than taking their loss like a man. Just because those guys are Brazillian doesn't make all Brazillians whiners and I shouldn't have generalized. Please accept my humble apology.
