Did anybody hear about this fight with Dan Severn & Mathias"Maddog" Hughes fight? Its gonna be in Canada. but isnt Dan Severn like 50? Whats the point of this fight? Even if Hughes DOES beat Severn, what does that prove? That he beat a legend at the age of 50 when he's 28. I dont know man, but any guys who have heard about it, tell me what you think.

I think that Severn's style of fighting makes it possible to be effective at his age...if that makes any sense. He is fit for his age, and his skills are sharp...however he's not the most entertaining fighter out there.
Mad Dog Hughes is "Manitoba's Most Violent Man"? Pardon me, but that's about the stupidest f**king thing I've heard...lol.

He wins all of his fights becuase he fights guys like "Manitoba's most violent man!!" O my God that is ridiculous. I mean if you are going to say that it's got to be at least like NY or LA but Manitoba??? Sometimes I am embarrased to be Canadian, not often but this is one of those times. That would be a phrase the WWE would use to try to turn the guy heel and have the crowd laugh and boo the guy!!

i was born in manitoba and thought i was "manitoba's most violent man" dam! sounds like a repeat wife beater to me. severn's name does help promote these no name shows. i hope the violent guys gets mutli-suplexed like anthony mad dog macias. there's also a fight in fine print : "trish vs susan, once and for all" , they must be ex's of the violent man.

From I what I am aware of, Dan Severn will be coming to my location (Guam) to fight in the first ever cage match here in "Fury". Enson Inoue will also be making his return fight in this event, which happens in Guam January 10th 2004.

What the hell is up with Dan Severn? The guy is 50 yet he still fights? Why? He's one of the most boring fighters to ever live so does he enjoy boring all his fans to death? I seriously doubt he has financial problems, so I don't know why he continues to fight. Maybe he's just crazy.

Severn is such a bum. I hope he loses hard.

Severn probably loves to train and compete, judging by his life. But he also seems to be too cautious, from what I've seen, or very serious about winning but in the wrong way. Apparently he's winning these days though. Just gotta entertain too.
I thought Canada was having trouble getting support for their promotions?...Midget boxing isn't going to win over the powers that be. But whatta sight.

severn may be old, out of shape, and a freddy mercury lookalike, but he does more than his part in promoting mma. he appears at these no name cards to give some type of headliner to it.i dont think anyone will go to a card headlined by richie goosehead. i give him credit for that. (but thats where it ends!)
**note, i saw the sponsers a laughed my ass off. mohawk gas station, robins donuts and taste of sri lanka. (winners get free robins eggs and a samosa)

I just watched Ultimate Ultimate...and Severn did rape Tank...that was one of the most one-sided beatings I think I've ever seen (think Couture vs. Tito, but not nearly as close). Granted Severn didn't "finish" Tank, but he sure as hell owned him the whole fight. And after watching that fight I kept wondering - How the hell did Tank ever, I mean EVER, get another contract with the UFC? Oh well.

If you want to see a one-sided beating watch the Igor-Enson fight.

How funny, I just watched that one this evening during my treadmill workout. That flurry at the very begining of the fight was one of the ugliest things I've ever seen. Two guys going at it "windmill" style, sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. But after that Igor pretty much beat Enson's head into the mat. Did you see the swelling on Enson's face? He looked like Sloth from the Goonies.

the main story of that entire fight was Enson's heart. It was absolutely amazing how Enson could continue going on while taking those shots and not giving up.

The main story in the fight was Igor's dominance. No one cares about that
punching bag Enson Inoue. He should of stuck to fighting tomato cans like
Tuli Tulahappi.

Dikslapu, why would you make such a statement? Enson Inoue is one of the most popular fighter in the history of MMA for a reason. That reason is that he's a legend.

dikslapu: i agree
juntao: i dont think enson is a legend. his greatest moment was when he armbared couture, i'll give him that. but that's it. he hasnt done anything signifgant enough to become a legend. being popular doesnt make you a legend, otherwise tank would be a god wouldnt he?

I'll admit this much...I have know idea why Enson is so popular. I suspect that his "tough guy manly warrior" mystique appeals to alot of people...it's waaaaay too much machismo for me. He seems to have alot to offer in terms of what I call "Bumper Sticker Philosphy"...short little statements about what it means to be a warrior...I'm not saying it's good or bad...just shallow or simplistic I guess - "I would die rather than tap."...I personally think that's stupid on so many levels...it's like he's looking for the sound bite, or the bumper sticker. I recall he took a pit bull into the ring with him after a fight. When I saw that I said wtf? this guy is a clown. Like I said, just waaaay too much machismo for me.
Now after having said all that...the guy trains and fights for real. That you can't take away from him...and for that I give him respect and credit. Just please, please spare me all the philosophical tough guy warrior crap.

I completely disagree Just Brian. I think it's because I'm more of a wild outgoing fellow who'd still relatively young as compared to many others who are quite experienced and a bit more wisened.
Enson's never say die attitude is what makes him head and shoulders above so many other fighters and you're always guaranteed an entertaining fight when he's on one side of the ring.
Enson is the man

This thread started out bashing Severn and ended up bashing Inoue. Focus people, focus!
I like old Dan, always have. He won the majority of his fights and competes regularly. He and Tank Abbott are probably the two fighters who will sign a fight on a moments notice. I won't begrudge a fighter for making a living and Dan seems to be protecting himself physically. Go Dan!
it's now dec 21st, did he win?

Severn won by sumission just under 3 mins into the 1st round.
Mathius 'Mad Dog' Hughes worsened his MMA record to 0-3
He is on right on pace to smash Joe Son's record.

lol, that guy must have felt like **** losing to a 50 year old man in under 3 minutes. And he lost by submission? To Dan Severn? A submission? That's just insult to injury right there.
