from insidefighting.com, often very reliable
According a law enforcement source close to the investigation told us "We have information that the De La Hoya fight was fixed." This news, albeit disturbing, is not totally shocking for those who saw the fight. This is all part of the FBI's on-going 20-month probe looking into alleged widespread corruption in boxing, the New York Daily News reported yesterday.
If you missed it, the FBI raided "Top Rank" offices (boxing promoters) yesterday.
I say good! Screw boxing and everything it stands for. Just one more on a huge list of reasons why people should switch to MMA.

One other thing, this is a good thing. **** like this claens up the messes, every sport has controversy, baseball w/ steriods and Pete Rose, this is good for boxing..
Also it's vindication for Oscar and the millions of people that watched the fight and knew something corrupt just happened.

I'm glad about this news and I'm pretty sure it is real. Oscar completely punched the **** out of Mosley in their fight but yet he still ended up losing a unanimous decision.
I hope Boxing loses tons of credibility for this because it sucks compared to MMA.

according to teddy atlas, he heard from his sources :" FBI probe actually revolves around a September 2001 Jorge Paez KO3 win over Verdell Smith, not De La Hoya-Mosley."
until we hear some real proof, lets not jump to the "i hate boxing, mma rules " slogans quite yet.

I've jumped there already.

If you don't like boxing why post in this forum? We have a fabulous MMA forum for fans of that sport. It is not fair to boxing fans to simply make hate posts, just as it isn't fair to MMA fans for haters to come in and just bitch on that forum. I see no problem with someone pointing out problems, making suggestions, debating points,etc... But it is poor form to simply wish bad on boxing because you hate it. Do we need an example?
Wrong: "Boxing sucks, I hate it."
Right: "Boxing has problems that need to be fixed. Such as......"
I will try to lead by example. I hate rap music, thus I will endeavor to never post on a rap music forum. :D
Regarding the sting investigation, I am all for it as any illegal activity or fixing must be stopped. While not the only reason for fixing fights, gambling is probably the biggest. This is not a new problem for boxing or any sport and from time to time there are purges to get rid of those who think they can work the system for monetary gain. Investigate, expose any crimes and punish the guilty for the common good.

Reported by nydailynews.com
"Charges fly as boxer adds punch probe"
Mitchell Rose, 34, told the Daily News he was offered $5,000 to throw the fight against Eric (Butterbean) Esch, but he refused to go down. Rose ended up defeating Butterbean by KO in round 2.
I think this investigation is going to go deep into Top Rank and be widespread across other boxing promotions. If a guy like Bob Arum is guilty of it who knows how many more are too? Just like the accounting scandals that began with Enron. Then came WorldCom and on and on.

Hey, didn't Foreman say in his post fight commentary after the DelaHoya x Mosley fight that he suspected the fight was fixed because of what Bob Arum said? Could George have known something was up? Hmmmm. Anyone care to shed some light on this topic.

When they talk about the fight being fixed, they're not talking about the actual fighters working the fights are they? I'm assuming that they simply mean the judges were paid off or something to that extent.

In the case of Mosley x De-la-Hoya we are talking solely about the judges. But in other fights (ie. the Butterbean fight) we are talking about the boxers. Like I said, this investigation is going to run deep into Top Rand and widespread across other boxing promoters.

Well written. MMA has had it knocks also, w/ steriod issues, fighters punching refs, every sport is going to have things like this. This is good for boxing because this is how you clean up the sport..
Why someone who hates boxing or doesn't like it posts in a boxing forum is beyond me.

I don't think it will help the sport at all, but that's just me.

Why? You think just letting corruption go on is the way? You think have more De Le Hoya/Mosley II decision is helps? You think leaving things unchecked is the right way?
