DKP wins Jones-Tarver bid!

Don King Productions won today's WBC purse auction for the highly anticipated rematch between WBC light heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr. and Antonio Tarver. DKP's winning bid of $8.5 million easily outdistanced bids from Star Boxing ($6,675,999), Sports Network ($6,500,000) and Square Ring (($6,401,113). The purse will be split 75% - 25% in favor of the champion Jones and the fight should take place within 90 days. The auction took place moments ago at the WBC Executive Offices in Mexico City


this was a fight i was hoping jones wouldnt take. the first one was far too boring imo, why a second? since he now plans a rematch, i hope he's comfortable at 175 weight so we wont hear any excuses. i guess the heavyweight farce is over. too bad, a toney /jones fight looked more attractive than this fight.

I was hoping for a couple more heavyweight fights for Jones too, but I suppose the weight gain/loss process took more of a toll on Roy than he had anticipated. If he's in shape and has maintained his weight since the first fight I don't see him having much trouble in a rematch.

On a side note: Sugar Ray Leonard was on The Best Damn Sports Show last night. When asked who would win a Roy Jones/Sugar Ray (in his prime of course) showdown. He didn't even hesitate to declare himself the winner. He did say that Roy would have to come down though. :D

Tarver will win. He really did win the first fight and he will show that he is better by winning the second one too.

I used to like Jones and I thought he would win but not anymore.

I'll take Jones by a TKO sometime in the fourth round.

The only reason Tarver hung in there with Roy in the first fight was because Roy was drained from having too lose a ton of weight to go back to light heavyweight. If Roy is prepared and comfortable at the lower weight again, Tarver will get schooled.

Plus given the weight loss, Tarver still lost the fight. I HATE Roy Jones and was rooting for Tarver, as a matter of fact, outside of Osama Bin Laden, I'd root for anyone fighting Roy. But even as a Roy hater, I couldn't score the fight for Tarver. Even Tarver's own trainer, the great Buddy McGirt, told he he wasn't doing enough, that he wasn't winning rounds. Tarver could act all shocked but McGirt wasn't. Tarver gave away so many rounds when he wouldn't do anything in the center of the ring.

I agree with everything Left said. Especially the part that said the 1st fight was boring, I hoped to see Jones fight someone else, a few more HWs would have been really nice, and Jones will probably school him this time.

I really hate Tarver. Normally I like fast talking, trash talkers. But after I watched Tarver do nothing but throw punches while Jones was backed up on the ropes and then say "everyone here knows I won" I lost all respect for him.
