HAMBURG (AP) - Oscar de la Hoya will fight Felix Sturm for the WBO middleweight title June 5.

Christoph Rybarczyk, spokesman for Sturm promoter Universum studios, said Friday the bout would happen but a venue has not been selected. HBO has agreed to televise the fight.

De La Hoya, who has won titles in five other weight classes, could add one in the middleweight division against Sturm (20-0, nine knockouts).

``The fight is perfect,'' Rybarczyk said.

De la Hoya wants to fight Bernhard Hopkins later this year, which is expected to be one of the most lucrative bouts outside of the heavyweight division of all time.

Universum has cancelled Sturm's title defence against American Kingsley Ikeke on March 6 in order to take the de la Hoya fight.

Sturm is relatively unknown even in Germany, having just won his title Sept. 13 against Hector Velazco.

``He's my idol, I've seen so many fights from him on video,'' Sturm said of de la Hoya. ``But I won't freeze up in awe against him.''

De La Hoya hasn't fought since losing his 154-pound title to Shane Mosley last September. He has won titles in all major boxing organizations including the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO.

I don't think so, I think Oscar wins a cleasr decision or late stopage but let's not forget, Oscar hasn't faught at 160 yet. This if the WBO champ, so when Oscar beats him and Hopkins beats Allen, they will fight for all 4 belts.

dog: who the hell has this guy fought? no one even remotely close to oscar's calliber. if it does go the distance, it means oscar's power cant compete at this weight and he'll get slaughtered by big mouth. i still think he'll get the ko.

I don't think he will have the power to deal w/ Hopkins..

He is going to have to box the best fight of his career, like the Tito fight w/ out getting tired..

I heard this guy Sturm is solid. Nothing special, but no bitch. I think it's possible that Oscar could get a KO, but I doubt it, I see it going late, maybe a decision, maybe a late round TKO.

I think Oscar is going to beat Sturn by TKO within the first 8 rounds. It's true that Oscar hasn't experienced 160 yet, no matter how weak the blows are, if he is landing them in succession the ref will stop the fight,

He is the WBO 160 pound champ. Oscar should win no doubt..

But just because you never heard of a guy, doesn't mean he sucks.

i had no idea he was the current wbo 160 champ. even though the wbo means nothing outside of europe, i give him his credit. just a bit.

I don't think he poses much threat to Oscar. Oscar should be able to handle him but it will be interesting to see how he handles him. I don't see how Oscar can beat Hopkins. I just don't, so I want to see how he does at 160.

the one thing oscars relied on his whole career, great combos and punching power. will he have effective power at 160? he did at 154, so why not at 160? his conditioning at this weight will be everything. i'll pick my winner for this fight after seeing the weigh in.

6 pounds doesn't make much of a difference in my estimation.

I'll take Oscar by TKO.

It means a lot, but think about it like this, this would be Oscar's 6th weight division, nobody has ever won a title in 6 weight classes.

6 pounds might mean a lot if it's a lower clas 154 fighter, but Oscar is one of the best so I doubt it will be a factor.
