K-1 reports that it signed former cruiserweight champion and world ranked boxer Vassiliy Jirov (33-2, 29 KOs) to fight on it's 6/6 "Boxing vs. K-1" show televised by ESPN PPV from Nagoya Aiichi Rainbow Hall. Jirov will reportedly face Musashi. The other 2 boxer-K-1 fights include Ernesto Hoost vs. Frans Botha and Alexey Ignashov vs. Ray Mercer. We have not received confirmation from Team Jirov yet.

I have not heard of this ppv, June 6th is right around the corner..

Anyone else heard of this?

Hear is the scheduled line up:

Line-up:

Fight 1
Petr Vondrachek vs. Carter Williams

Fight 2
Takeru vs. Allister Overeem

Fight 3
Martin Holm vs. Marvin Eastman

Fight 4
Naoufal Iron Leg (Benazzouz ?) vs. Jan Nortje

Fight 5
Gary Goodridge vs. Peter Aerts

Fight 6
Alexey Ignashov vs. Ray Mercer

Fight 7
Ernesto Hoost vs. Frans Botha

Fight 8
Musashi vs. Vassiliy Jirov

Goodridge vs Arets is interesting. Mercer is scheduled to fight a boxing match coming up so there is question marks on him and Jirov has yet to comment officially.

thats a huge move by k-1. k-1 is making a big effort to sway boxing fans to their sport. being a boxing fan, this should be interesting.

are all fights k-1 rules?

because of jirov's style, i think musahsi will run around and leg kick him (masato style) and get the win. jirov doesnt have one punch ko power and is primarily a body puncher.

i think ray mercer could do well becuse of his punching power. but that's about it of the entire lot.

i wonder how the boxing promoters are taking this? i'd bet jose suliman is flipping out. i would assume they'll try hard to disrupt k-1 from stealing away too many fighters.

dog, keep up posted on how this works out.

I will but this is scheduled for next weekend..I have seen no mention of it on my PPV channel but maybe the switch over at the end of the month it will start playing..

I hope this card stays in place and I will surely want to see this..

Williams is also coming back quick after 2 KO stopages against Vondrachek, I think this will be tough for him and can you imagine if Carter gets stop in 3 straight fights?

Carter's people are doing a good job looking after their fighter.

Check out the K1 website. www.so-net.ne.jp/feg/k-1gp/
Should be a great nite of fights.

If the card stands as listed, I think it should be pretty good. I might even go since it's so close to my house.

Petr Vondrachek vs. Carter Williams

This should be a good fight, and Williams should win. PV is aggressive and fun to watch; he always comes to fight, but tends to have shakey defense.
Carter really needs this win, and I think he'll get it.

Takeru vs. Allister Overeem

I don't know Takeru, but Overeem has some great tools, and I'm guessing he'll win by KO.

Martin Holm vs. Marvin Eastman
Another probabable quality fight. Holm is the most underrated K-1 fighter, and Eastman is respectable. I think Holm wins.

Naoufal Iron Leg (Benazzouz ?) vs. Jan Nortje
No idea.

Gary Goodridge vs. Peter Aerts
Should be interesting but if Aerts comes to fight he should have no trouble.

Alexey Ignashov vs. Ray Mercer
If it happens, Alexey should destroy him with kicks and knees.

Ernesto Hoost vs. Frans Botha
Botha hasn't been as bad as everyone here makes it out, though I'm no fan. Regardless, I always enjoy watching Hoost.

Musashi vs. Vassiliy Jirov
I rarely enjoy watching Musashi.

considering allister just got KO'ed last week, and jirov aint fighting in japan, I'd say this card is'nt going to turn out the way it was planned. anyone know the most recently updated card?

I just checked the Japanese Webpage, and it still has the same card listed. Now obviously, Overeem will not be fighting, but I think it's completely ridiculous if they've been misleading everyone about the other two fights, one which is the main event. K-1's credibility, which isn't exactly that high anyway, will be damaged. Still, Holm-Eastman, Aerts-Goodridge, Hoost-Botha, and Williams-Vondrachek are decent if not great match-ups.

Anyone know when or if LeBanner will return? It'd suck if he missed the GP Final again, especially with Leko and now Hunt gone.

Also, I've been thinking about some K-1 Super Fights that should happen.

First, LeBanner v. Sefo:

they fought once, and Sefo had a pulverizing ko. Jerome has to want a rematch, right?

Second, Aerts v. Hoost:

the two K-1 legends have only fought three times, Aerts leads 2-1, and the last time was 1998. This probably won't happen intentionally--they'd have to meet in the GP, because the fight offers more risk than reward for both. That's what I'm thinking, but maybe not.

Third, Sapp v. LeBanner

First time LeBanner would be the smaller guy, and I would like to see Sapp try his charging attack against LeBanner. It would be the first time Sapp faced a true power-puncher. I think Mirko is a strong puncher but not quite at Jerome's level--even still, he rocked Sapp.

Others:

Ignashov v. LeBanner/Hoost/Sefo/Mirko/Hunt

Just because Alexey hasn't fought any of them, and he should have to.
I mean, he's obviously one of the best, but he's only fought Aerts (1-1), Filho (0-1) and a declining Bernardo (1-0) out of the "superstar" category.
To be the best, you gotta beat the best, right?

Holm v. Bonjasky

Because Holm is better than people think and a win over Bonjansky would prove it.

He fought Sefo in 2002 semi finals in Saitama. Try to find that event, it was great.
