I was a traditional martial artist, never using training equipment but I shed that for mixed martial arts. I just bought a speed bag and need to know how many times a week that I can use it without over-training. Thanks John

First of all welcome to the forum. I would need to know a little more info. Like what is your current level of conditioning? Also, what other forms of training(weights, cardio, martial arts, etc), you are doing at to what degree. I really see no reason why you couldnt work on a speed bag on a daily basis. Good luck with your training.

Thanks for the response. My conditioning is decent. My workout consist of on Monday and Thursday- 4/2 minute rds on the heavy bag, 6/2 minute rds of bodyweight exercises with jumping rope( 1 set of exercise then immediately jump rope) and 5/2 minute rds on the speed bag. Tuesday and Friday 6/2 minute rds with bodyweight exercises and rowing machine and 5/2 minute rds on the speedbag. Wednesday and Saturday- I do a total work out for each body part on the crossbow(2 sets) then a run on the treadmill for 10 minutes and 5/2 minute rds on the speed bag. Sunday, I only do the bodyweight exercises and 5/2 minutes rds on the speed bag. The bodyweight exercise are from Matt Furey's Combat Conditioning book.

Go at least 5 days a week on your speed bag. The more the better if you want to improve the speed and power in your punches and kicks.

You can use the speed bag 7 days a week. Also i was looking at your workout and you should doing less rounds on the heavy bag, speed bag and lengthen the amount of time to simulate an MMA Fight which is usually Five minutes. It is good to start out with 2-3 5minute rounds on teh heavy bag or hitting the focus mitts and thai pads and then work your way up to 6-8 five minute rounds.
