Dave Meltzer reports that Sergei Khar is boxing heavyweight for Kazikstan(sp). I'm not sure when boxing takes place or if NBC is showing it. Anybody keeping track of the Olympics better than me? Fill us in as I'd love to see Khar box.

I hadn't heard this...
I think he may be wrong according to NBC's olympic site:
Sergei Kazakov is the closest name match and he boxes for Russia he is a lightweight this was the closest I could find. Plus the games kicked off on the 13 but ad trails before hand I don't think he could have competed and still fought the GP.
I'll look more into this though.

That would be quite the coincidence if it weren't him..

The idea of fighting in the GP and then heading straight to the Olympics is amazing. Thats one tough guy (assuming it is him afterall).

Damn, that is simply amazing if Kharitonov is there. One thing though, isn't Kharitonov Russian? Why would he be fighting for Kazikstan then? Is that a territory of Russia still?

Nice job Donna.
Serg is an incredible athlete to be boxing at the Olympics so soon after the Grand Prix.

I agree maybe since he was robbed in Pride he seeks a gold medal to help heal the wound.

here's a question for those who saw Kharitonov fight Nog. How was his punching skills when he fought Nog? Depending on how well Kharitonov does in the Olympics, we would be able to guage how good the overall punching skills of fighters in MMA are.
Fact is, if you put "KHARITONOV Sergey" on Google, you will find over 3000 links, not related with MMA.

His punching wasn't anything spectacular against Nog. Fedor is way better, and I guess Nog is too.
