I've just started doing some boxing for my cardio, mostly hitting on the heavy bag. My wrists have really started to hurt from it, likely because I'm not using any wraps.

What would you guys recommend? Just tape or are there actual wraps of some kind? Any help would be appreciated.

If they are hurting, Id suggest you start using some boxing wraps. They should hold your wrist secure. Also, try and hit the bag square. When you hit it on the side or on an angle it will spin the bag. That can cause injurys to the wrist. After a while though your wrist should strengthen up.

bigjay, in addition to wraps, make sure you're hitting the bag with the first 2 knuckles, and not the last 3. this will line up your hand, wrist, and arm properly and you can avoid "jamming" your wrist. i had a problem with this when i was throwing uppercuts. hitting the pad with a bent wrist can be very painfull down the road.

considering the fact that you're hitting a heavybag, i'd recommend mma style bag gloves (with center piece).

LOL. You should always use hand wraps. They're like $10. Go find yourself a pair.

Lefty, that's a good tip about trying to connect with your first 3 knuckles. I never heard someone say that before but it's totally true. Even when I've got my sparring gloves, if I connect with the heavybag on my outer knuckles I feel as though my wrist is going to break.

I disagree about using MMA gloves for a heavy bag though. I don't think you'll get enough support. I'd suggest 6/8 oz gloves.

I've bought a heavy bag at www.profightstore.com and some bandages. But I don't know if I punch it correctly since finger joints are bloody? I bandage my hands properly and I hit the bag with arm extended straightly (the fist is in same level with the rest of the hand, there is no angle between the fist and the rest of the hand) don't know how to explain this.
What's the problem? some advice please
