Finished Invisible Man a few weeks ago. Can't say that I understood every nuance in the text, but it has definitely changed my view of the African-American social history and condition.

A bit over half way through The Grapes of Wrath. Absolutely loving it. The relatives on my mom's side are from Oklahoma. So many of the Joads family's mannerisms remind me of my grandfather.

Looks like this guy churns out books a lot quicker than George RR Martin so hopefully it's not a thirty year wait for the series to finish. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. Book two is planned for later this year and book three about a year after that.
1000 pages is not the worst in the world, but damn a 10 book series is pretty heavy stuff. Don't think I want to start a series that's already planned to go that long, especially if its just begun. I was actually looking at Malazan novels. Read some really good things on that, but its 10 books as well.

I've done the 1000 page books and long series before, WOT, but I died right around book 8?

    I've got a few ideas,

Farseer trilogy- darkdoom (?) recommended it as well
Tad Williams - Memory Sorrow Thorn trilogy/quadrilogy - heard good things but also that its very slow moving
Monarchies of God - 5 books. Read good things.

Trying to find something that isn't typical prophecy/young peasant rises up to kill the dark one/ type books? Would Way of Kings fit with what I'm looking for?

Oh and you give any thought to "Under the dome"?

Damn I think I just wrote a 10 Novel post? lol

I'm about 12% into it so far and it's yet to grab me, but two of my friends tell me it's about to pick up considerably.

Surely Brown cant **** up using Dante as a plot device. He isnt the greatest writer but he is pretty good at this type of stuff.

    KnockOut,

I finished Deal Breaker. I enjoyed it, definitely a page turner. Didn't love the ending but it did add up. I didn't think it was the best writing. And he did some weird summary of all the facts type chapter before doing the resolution. Which that def did come across cheesy. All in all I did like the book.

But question for you, does he get a lot better? I know this was the first Bolitar book, and one of his earliest books. If you read this one, how does it rate with the rest of his output?
