Default Official TUF 3 Play by Play Thread

For those who are outside the U.S. and don't get the live tv coverage, I'll do a play by play of the TUF 3 finals. Please see www.mmafighting.com main page for spoilers of the dark matches.

Its been reported that Mike Bisping has injuries including a torn tendon or ligament at an unspecified location. Bisping is a heavy favorite over Josh Haynes but these injuries might be the great equalizer.

    TV bouts:

    Keith Jardine vs Wilson Gouveia
Ed Herman vs Kendall Grove for the middleweight contract
Mike Bisping vs Josh Hayens for the LT contract
    Kenny Florian vs Sam Stout.

First up is Jardine vs Gouveia

round 1 Jardine and Gouv circle quickly with some kicks but no damage. Jardine has a bloody nose from jabs. NIce low leg kick by Gouv, and another. Gouv is very crisp and nails a nice jab to Jardines mouth. Both trade jabs to the face. Hard as hell leg kick by Gouv, and another. Jardine cant block the leg kicks at all. Gouv is picking Jardine apart very technically. Jardine is game and aggressive but Gouv is like a surgeon. Jardine charges, Giouv backs up and dances which has the crowd boo'iong--not fair since Gouv really is outclassing Jardine so some showboating is fine. Jardine lands a coupe nice jabs but Gouv isn't detererred. Jardeine left knee is blood red from the low kicks. Gouv takes down Jardine but they are back up and clinch at the fence. Wilson Gouveeia has been picking Jardine apart. Round 1 is Gouveia for sure. Round 2 next

    Round 2

Jardine lands low leg kicks of his own and Gouv seems content to circle. Jardine presses the action and Gouv back pedals. No damage by Jardine but he presses the action. Jardine misses a high kick. Gouv is all defense this round. Trade jabs and trade again. Jardines face is bloody. The nose bleeding and possibly under the left eye. It goes to the ground with Gouv on top, but back up immediately. Both guys are moving quickly and no signs of gassing. Thus far, Jardine is winning the round on aggression and Gouv is just playing defense. Rogan says Gov is gassing, but it doesn't look it to me. Jardein lands a high kick but Gouv shakes it off. jardein throws with Gouv answering. Gouv has some bizarre tattos or scars on his lower back on his spin. Gouv eats a nutshot and stops the action. Nice kick by Jardine right to the nuts. Retstart as Gouv pulls his nuts back out of his chest. Jardine lands a nice lower leg kick. Now Jardine is showboating. Rogan explains the wierdness on Gouvs back is tape from some Japanese treatment for back pain.

Round 2 is all Jardine. Ive got it tied one round each.

    Round 3

Both are trading big leg kicks and Jardine is limping badly. Both trade nice strikes with heavy hands. Jardine tries a takedown adn gets it into Gouvs full guard. Jardine bleeding from nose but its ok. Both very agressive. Jardine does the gnp on Gouv and marks him up with hammer fists. Jardine bleeding like Ric Flair. Jardine went down but not sure if knocked down or slip. Both weary but throwing hard. Gouv looks fresher at this point and both tiring. Jardine looks a mess bloody and limping but Gouv is tired too. Nice leg kick by Jardine. Action slowing as they are both worn out. Botgh landing punches with not much defense. Jardine pushes the pace as the round closes out. Jardine lands a couiple nice strikes and bleeds all over the place.

Its over. Jardine pushed the pace and was more agressive so I'll give him the fight.

Mo, I agree. If Gouv landed about 5 more leg kicks, Jardine would have collapsed. The judges unanimously give it to Jardine.

40 minutes in and only 1 fight. How long is this show....2 or 3 hours? Going to have to be 3 or else we will only see 3 fights. Promos for the next ppv with pushing the AA/Giant Sylvia fight and Tito vs TUFS most dangerous man. This is the right avenue to pimp the ppv, so I have no problem with it. Dana getting plenty of face time.

That was a good fight to open the show. Two big guys beating up on each other and no slow spots. Wilson should be brought back as he did well and had he only kept up the leg kicks, Jardine would have probably collapsed like Paul Varelens back in the 1800s against Ruas.

Ed Herman vs Kendall Grove up next for the TUF contract. Nice vid package on Herman showing family life and making him look less like a dick than the show did. Kendalls package was mainly him working with Ortiz and training. Both guys have a place in the UFC unless they totally blow it in this fight and put everyone to sleep. Regardless, they will get a second chance. TUF is about making stars and I think Kendall has more star ability than Ed, though Ed has that funky anti-charisma like Leben where he makes a good heel. Round 1 up next.

1 fight in 1 hour. Wow.

Tito corners Kendall and the crowd is hot for the introductions. Ed is from Team Quest but I couldn't see any TQ regulars from the camera view. The Hard Rock sucks from this as it looks too small. They need a 3000 seat hall to look more upscale.

    Round 1

Ed charges and they clinch at the fence. Trade knees and elbow. Sloppy takedown with Ed on top. Ed drops a short elbow as Kendall smpins looking for an arm bar. Eds arm is trapped in the armbar at the cage but Ed throws short knees. Both tied up in a pretzel. The ref may break them up as not much can happen here. Ed does drop short knees as Kendall holds the arm. Ed slips ouit and is in the guard. Tied up at the fence on the ground with Ed trying for gnp and Ken working for the sub. Ed drops bombs but missing mostly. Ed is smothering Ken but they stand back up. Ed takes Ken down with the double leg and is in classic TQ ride'm for the win mode. Ed doing more damage to Ken and is holding him down and trying to hit the elbows. Its all Ed so far, but sloppy. Ed loks for a RNC but they spin. Ken eating the gnp. round 1 is all Ed Herman.

    Round 2 Ed vs Kendall.

Fast exchange and Ed gets the takddown again but Ken has his head locked down. Now Ed is in the guard in the middle so gnp is harder. Ken has the triangle and Eds in trouble. Its in close and Ed is alive. Ken lets it go but Ed slams him ala mini Rampage. Ken has him but Ed escapes and back in full guard. Nice escape by Ed and nice mini-slam. Ken grabs the triangle on Ed again! Someon is bleeding as tthey reverse with Ken on top in the north south position. Ken knees Ed in the head fron the north south and moves to side guard, back to North south. Not sure who is bleeding. Ed rolls and they are still north south. Standup with Ed eating a knee and back down with Ken in Eds guard. Wow, round 2 has gotten good. Now Ed eats and elbow but he goes for the Triangle on Ken. Ken is done it looks. Is Ken out? No, he escapes! Now Ed gnp on Ken and tries for the RNC. Arm bar attempt by Ed but Ken is ok. Round ends with Ed eating a punch from the top. Kickass round 2 and both fought hard. I'm not sure who to pick for round 2, but I'm thinking Ken. Ed looks exhausted. Ken has a cut over his eyebrow.
