I train BJJ one night a week. I've only been in one tournament. Right now any competition money goes to judo events, but eventually when the money comes in I'd like to mix it up at more BJJ tournies too.

I do BJJ 2-3 times a week. I am only a stripe into my white belt at the moment ... I can hang with the blue/purples pretty well though.

I think Thumpin is our resident Jui Jitsu expert here (blue or purple belt if I recall correctly).

I have my Japanese Ju Jitsu grading in Dec (2 weeks awaY) so I have been focusing on that, but I have done a few tournaments in BJJ/Sub wrestling. In fact I don't think I have trained BJJ since my tragically embarresing performance at my last comp!

Anyways don't look to jump into competing too soon.

yeah, people go alot harder, faster and are more brutal in comp. So you have a higher chance of getting injured.

Like they will snap on a sub and go for broke without giving you time to think about submitting.

You want to learn and gain experience, so you can avoid damage. Otherwise, what's the point in getting experience if you get injured in the process.

No reason to jump right in comp because of TUF or something.

been training juijitsu for nine years off and on. i'm a brown belt who should be a black belt, but my run ins with the law has slowed down my progress into the elite class. tapout the only way to get better at juijitsu is to the time spent on the mat. all the seeing is good but the only way to get better is to roll everyday and make sure you're intense too! tho, what i learned a long time ago was to train when you're weak and tired only then will you learn to use technique over strenth and energy.

make sure when you train with these dudes who are more experianced than you that they are helping you and not trying to bully you. theres a few out there who only care about theselves and try to hurt the young, small unexsperianced student.

I have also just started BJJ in Staten Island NY, Renzo has opened up a new school there called NYC BJJ academy. The first class I was rolling, I like the philosophy of the school you roll every class and every thing is hands on. Rite now I can only afford one day a week (hockey consumes most of my free time), they offer classes like 6 times a week there are no gi classes two times a week and once a month a pro comes in teaches, a lot of IFL guys from Reno’s team. Jamal Paterson was there last month.
