My first lesson will be tomorrow night. I wanted to go over the weekend but they only have Saturday classes for kids bjj, standup and open-mat. Not sure what open-mat is?

Excited and nervous. I've read that most bjj schools are very friendly and welcoming so hopefully its the same at this one.

Open mat usually means no lesson. The mat is "open" for students to drill, roll, or whatever.

Sometimes people from other gyms also come and roll for open mat.

Did you end up going? If so, how'd you like it? If not, I can't wait to hear your lame ass excuse.

Hahaha sorry mate i didn't see your reply as i didn't get a notification for some reason. I had actually been expecting one to come through as i thought you'd check in to see how it went. Thought i got away with it tbh haha.

However, I didn't go. I've got a laundry list of excuses but i won't bore you with them. My new plan is to start during the mid year break (from Uni).

On the weekend i caught up with a mate who's right into MMA training and after bringing up my BJJ plans he said the school had a really good reputation and were a good bunch of people. That was good to hear.

    You're killing me, Smalls.

Seriously though, I know how hectic life can be at times, so I can't and won't judge. I will tell you though, that right now, grappling is easily the biggest stress reliever in my life. I really don't know how I'd make it through the work week without it. Keep us posted.
