I think the main difference is because of the international popularity of basketball the players have more leverage and can just go overseas.

With NFL, it's only popular in the US, and has virtually zero popularity internationally, so the players really have no other options if they strike. That's why the NFL and players wrapped things up quickly.

I can feel the pain of NBA fans... the NHL lockout was the worst year of my life. Last year all I heard was the NFL was probably going to be locked out, and the NBA maybe locked out. Now the NFL got **** together super fast, and the NBA doesn't seem to know where to start. From the sounds of things the NBA players are not going to budge.

It's probably a bunch of BS - but it is what it is. You have owners who signed a BAD deal on the last go round and they're not wanting to do it this time. .
The way I understand it is that teams like the Bulls, Lakers and Knicks make a ton of money. then small market teams like Charlotte, Milwaukee, New Orleans etc... are all losing money. The players feel the profitable teams should share more with the non-profitable teams.

I'm pretty nervous about losing a season when basketball is booming in popularity. So many good players and so many good teams and it's all gonna be lost b/c they can't get together on the money. I don't think Europe is an option for most players, so the hope of hte lockout ending is your bench players not getting paid and needing to sign a deal. The Kobe's of the world can survive an extended lockout, but not the Adam Morrison's. My hope is for at least a partial season like last time.

What do you guys think of some players playing overseas? Seems dumb to risk a career for peanuts just to try to make it seem like there is a market for players elsewhere.

I think it is all BS. Only over the hill veterans will be doing that, the rest are acting like they are interested to get leverage over the owners.

There is just too much money too be made for them to miss the entire season. I'd bet they won't miss more than half the season.

$5 million dollars is not peanuts in my book. That's what Deron Williams is getting with Bezikitas. I'm not sure how you're risking your career. If the lockout continues you make zero money anyway. Everyone is going to have a clause in their contract to get out when or if the lockout ends so there's very little risk.

well yea 5 mill isnt peanuts, but how many people do you think actually will get this kind of pay? Only top stars with garner top pay, and people who earn in the 1-4 mill pay range in the NBA will earn what? 100 grand? Not sure I would risk that for 1 season. Break a leg, arm, neck, back and guess what, your NBA contract is null and void...

Games canceled through november, a rift between hunter and fish, owners not willing to bend on the split. This sure is looking ugly.
