I've really enjoyed listening to Ron Paul's debate highlights this election. He's been painted as an extremist and more of a joke candidate than one that should be taken seriously. Unfortunately, he would no chance against Obama. The American voting population is open to small changes to government overtime but they aren't going to vote for someone who openly admits we need to level government and foreign involvement.

Pauls best service is as a Ralph Nadar watchdog type politician and not as the lead guy. He is too polarizing a figure to get the votes.

Apparently Paul holds back some, because he's worried if he runs a third party campaign, that Republican operatives will destroy his son's future political career. (Rand Paul wants to be president one day)

The media treats him like the crazy uncle most families have; they either make fun of him or ignore him.

The last time I cared less about a presidential election was Dubba vs. Kerry. This one barely registers above that one.

The media is mostly corporate owned. The political parties are mostly corporate owned. As a result both tend to support each other, so long as it revolves around the corporate consensus.

Romney and Obama would represent the mainstream of the business party, both are treated comparatively better by the media than the rest of the bunch. The further away you move from this consensus, the more you get ignored or treated with outright hostility.

So the more left you go, say Kucinich, Nader, Noam Chomsky, etc. The more the media will mistreat. Likewise, the more right you go away from the Romney-Gingrich-Perry-Santorum spectrum, i.e. Ron Paul, the media begins to mistreat you again.

And whether liberal or conservative, the reality is that each side wants a moderate version and not a full blown firebrand true believer. Thats how you get Dems who are conservative like Joe......whatshisname and Reps who are liberal like Romney & McCain.
