    Uhmmm...

Is Pancrase like UFC or Pride?

    Are the rules the same?

no elbows, takes place in a ring, no closed fists(only open hand palm strikes), and no kneeing on ground. i think thats it. i dont know if any rules have changed since the good ol' funaki, shamrock, and bas days. that was the last ttime i've ever watched pancrase.

Didn't use be to be like UFC or Pride. The competitors used to wear long boots - make it more flashy and make leg locks easier. But they have changed the rules now to get rid of the boots.

some Pancrase fights have really been brutal. Watch some of Bas Rutten's and Funaki's fights if you ever get the chance. Some of them are truly insane.

Pancrase fights can be really fun to watch - or they can be lethally boring. The fights that involved guys like Bas, Ken, Frank, Funaki, etc. were usually pretty good though.

Bas is actually putting out ALL his Pancrase fights (even the ones he lost) on a DVD set with a commentary track that has him explaining what's going on. Go to his website -- www.basrutten.tv -- and they are taking pre-orders right now.
