msn article on the IRS taxing medal winners. I had no idea they got prize money or that the money and medals themselves are taxed by the IRS.

Gold- winner gets $25,000 taxed by as much as 35%. Medal taxed at $236.

Silver- winner gets $15,000

Broze- winner gets $10,000 and medal taxed at $2

Cant even win honor for your country without paying the tax man.

There's a video where Ronda talks about this. Interesting thing is, she's training in her main gym with all her Armenian friends. The Armenian coach says, "In Armenia the gold medalist gets $900,000. $150,000 from the country and $750,000 from a rich sponsor. Plus, $900,000 in Armenia is like $10 million dollars in the US."

I know a lot of other countries pay their medalist very well.

For instance, you know the Russian judoka that won today is set. When Putin (a 6th Dan in judo) is in attendance and gives you a standing ovation, you're set. Putin might even let one of the dudes family members out of prison.

GB up to 4th in the medal tables. Big Ted finally won gold in the Judo ( though he used very negative judo in the final), Karina Bryant won Bronze, ending a 20 year wait to medal in judo. British judo needs to rebuild and the medals won shouldn't paper over the cracks of how poorly most of the squad performed. Judo matches are over, so I can finally get started on those job apps.

Athletics start today though.

16 year old Missy Franklin won here 3rd gold and 4th medal in the olympics. She set a world record in the 200 backstroke beating past record where they were wearing the banned bodysuits.

Phelps won gold in the 100 meter butterfly giving him 3 golds in these games and upping his total medals to 21. Staggering amount of medals.

Apparently there is a controversy going on about Gabbys hair. And its black people attacking her. I had no idea this was going on. What a shame too, this little girl tore it up winning gold and people are bitching about her hair?
