    Default Longmire Sundays on A & E

Longmire is a new tv series based on Craig Johnson's books about Sheriff Walt Longmire in rural Wyoming. The books are good reading as Longmire works between the Indian reservations and the white world. His friend Henry Standing Bear plays a big part in the books also and its the prose and fully fleshed characters that make it good stuff. The wrong casting could really hurt this one. Lou Diamond Phillips plays Henry and while he is good, he is about 3 foot too short to be the big Henry--The late Will Sampson would have been perfect. Robert Taylor plays Walt and it might be good to have an unknown play him. I really like the books so hope this series is good. Its essentially a modern day western.

I like it! They havent butchered the books or tried to gussy up Sheriff Walt into some hollywood hunk. One minor quibble is that Walk and Henry Standing bear were Vietnam Vets in the book and they have made them younger in the tv show since I guess nobody wants to see a 60 something lead character on the boob toob. Having said that, I like the actor playing Walt. No idea who he is but he does capture Walts quiet introspection and shows genuine emotion over the death of his wife. Will Sampson was born to play Henry Standing Bear but since he is dead they got Lou Diamond Phillips who is only seen in a couple of scenes so to early to judge. I do not like the actress playing Vic, Walts deputy. In the book she is a bawdy, cursing hot Italian chick from Philly who is a bulldozer. In the tv show she is a mousy blonde who whines alot. Overall, it was a good debut and a show I'll check out again.

Episode 2 aired tonight and its another winner. Stripper found dead in a field and turns out to be a Mennonite girl. Walt and crew investigate and find the killer. But, its the characters that make this show a winner. The shows play out easily with no mtv action fast cut editing. The characters are given room to breathe and things to play out. I like this show.

The tv series isnt following the book plots other tha who the characters are and their personas. Each episode is self contained so far. Id like to see more of the book plots involved but so far so good.

Another solid show tonight. Horsebarn full of prize horses burns up and a human body is found inside. What starts as a suicide soon turns up to have mob implications. Im really liking this show, its a modern day western and the Aussie actor playing Sheriff Longmire is nailing it. Damn good show.

Finally got around to watching last Sundays episode. Two bodies found tied together and in a creek that were shot. Turns out to be a local pot growing operation with Mexican drug cartel trying to take over. Walt raids national forrest grow area and big shootout ends the show. Another solid episode. This has become my favorite new tv show.

Well doggies, at least one more person here is catching it. The show is basically a real life modern day western and the guy playing Longmire has won me over. The books are so well done I was afraid they were going to **** it up but that hasnt been the case. Im not a big Lou Diamond Phillips fan but he has done a good job and they use him sparingly. The focus is on Walt Longmire as it should be and the Aussie actor playing him is nailing the part. Show is getting good reviews all around.
