Default No 1 contender fight: Kampmann vs Hendricks

Dana is matching them next and I assume its to determine the next challenger for the belt. Thoughts?

Martin weathers the storm and goes to work wearing Hendricks down for the tko in round 3.

i think that what i thought was going to happen in the ellenberger fight actually does happen in this one. hendricks is gonna hit him really hard in round 1. harder than ellenberger. at least as hard as daley.

i've loved kampmann and rooted for him since... honestly, the earliest fight i can remember right now is the mcfedries fight. he's got skills and heart. he'd even make an interesting fight with gsp for as long as gsp didn't take him down (about 30 seconds?). but that's chin's gonna haunt him forever against power punchers with tdd.

I'm usually on the same page as you with this stuff, but I tend to disagree here. I think Johnny may be a little better technical boxer than ellenberger, but I don't think he hits as hard in the first round. I also wouldn't say kampmann has a bad chin. In fact, the guy can take a beating that would put most guys lights out. He was never put down in the Daley fight, and for him to drop like he did against jak was surprising. His only major flaw is his defense when someone comes at him really hard. He baks up with his chin high.

I think its a damn close fight, and looking forward to it.

Assuming Hendricks has people around him who can get him to stick to a gameplan that he can win, and that he is not way too in love with his power left, I think Hendricks by TKO (Ground and Pound) if this fight happens.

If it stays standing Hendircks has a real shot to land a quick one shot knockout. But Hendricks is a power striker with no idea how to use a jab. All he can do is set up the power left by pawing with his right. if it stays standing, Kampmann will just pick him apart.

But Hendricks is a damn strong wrestler, and he is better at that than Ellenberger. Ellenberger tried to sprawl and brawl and while he did very well for a while, he did get caught. Hendricks is much more likley to put it on the ground. On the ground I think that Hendricks will just dominate Kampann very much like Sheilds did. Unlike Shields, he wont be looking to submit though.

    END COMMUNICATION

kampmanns learned his lesson... he just cannot let it go to the judges since they never support him even if hes decidedly won

He will take some bombs and damage but will get stronger in rounds 2-3-4-5 to dominate and win, hendricks would have to pace himself and not land as much.

This fight sucks. Both guys shouldn't have to fight each other, Condit should have to fight Hendricks for the interim title, then GSP gets the winner. Kampmann beats another top-tier ww instead to get his ticket to the winner of the GSP/Condit/Hendricks set of fights. Kampmann vs Rory MacDonald would be a good litmus test fight for both to see who gets the shot while Brian Ebersole, if he keeps winning, could be in the mix as well.

^^^ I kind of hate to see Kamp/Hendricks but for a different reason--it knocks a top contender off the list to fight for the belt in a division that just doenst have many fresh title contenders. In a perfect world, I'd like to see Kampmann get the next title shot and Hendricks the shot after him. But that also means it would take 2 years before Hendricks turn came around (2 defense a year max by champ if not injured) so its not feasible. Course I expect GSP to out point Condit in a 5 round decision and then get hurt again putting the title in limbo until late 2013

Fresh contenders? Team AKA has been dethroned with Koscheck and Fitch no long anywhere close to elevating above gatekeeper status. And BJ Penn might as well retire, so there are plenty of new challengers for GSP. Lets not confuse welterweight with middleweight.
