Default Mountain Men on History Channel

Anyone catch the debut episode? I've got skills but I'd never make it past the first winter since I would critically underestimate the amount of wood needed but these people live it every day. Good show.

I didn't catch it on tv but was considering checking out a replay of the premiere. The concept sounds good but I was wondering if it was actually a good wilderness living show or just "swamp people" forest edition where it's basically hey look at how inbred these folks are.

Maybe I'll check it out now.

Its a step up from Swamp people. The people profiled are definitely rough around the edges but all are well spoken and thoughtful. The youngest is the guy in the Smoky Mountains and he seems quite philosophical about the whole lifestyle. The two guys up in snow country have wifes/families and are far from idiots. They all share one trait in that they simply dont want to be a part of todays lifestyle and have gone back to the land. They realistically show just how hard the lifestyle is. These people are tough as nails, make no mistake about it. They dont have that Swamp people vibe of hillbillies out playing cowboy. Check it out.

Just watched the first episode. Good show indeed. The guy who flies out to Alaska every winter is the craziest. I would give Montana a shot but 60 below weather no thank you.

I don't care about the law if I was any of these guys as long as the cameras weren't around I would be shootin bears left and right. And Tom needs to keep his damn dog in the house before he gets it killed.

No ****. He talks about worrying about the dog and constantly lets it run loose. Pilot was craziest of all, flies off by himself for the winter to trap with no escape plan. He is one sprained ankle away from death.

I thought the first episode was meh. They advertised that these guys were "living off the grid" and other than the trapper cabin the Alaskan dude flew into they were not off the grid. My hunting/get away cabin is about 40 miles from Tom's place on the Yaak River and it is truly off the grid. Living "off the grid" means no electricity and hauling water to your place. I've got "neighbors" who live up in the mountains year round without electricity or running water. Then again a real mountain man wouldn't want a camera crew following them around and would threaten to shoot any city folk who came on their property

I liked the Alaskan dude the most and will give the show another try this week but I can see where the staged drama of this "reality show" might get old. How many times can Tom go out looking for his stupid dog?

Marty in Alaska is the only one worth a ****. Eustess is useless and just a hippie commune leader. Tom is a helpless old man who has to be rescued every episode----plus he has a mailbox so he isnt as isolated as they pretend.

This show has turned into an unintentional laughfest for me. Marty has a nice plane but has a piece of sh*t snowmobile from the 70's and he can't even ride it and falls off or gets stuck every episode. Tom is such a joke and a fraud. He and his wife really need to move to a condo in Florida. I've never seen so much misinformation about wolves, bears and living in the woods. I really can't stand these people who move up into the woods and then complain about all the animals coming onto their property. The scene with Tom and his doofus buddy trying to rattle in a deer while they were sitting silhouetted on top of a ridge and get all scared by a creaking tree really made me laugh. I'm sure the TV producers are trying to make it more "dramatic" but I' so sick of hearing Tom and his wife talk about how scared they are and looking for their stupid dog every episode.
