There's already a ban on illegals voting.

This is throwing citizens off the rolls, and disenfranchising them. This system isn't about finding and targeting illegally registered voters. It's about dumping thousands of democrats, and hoping they don't have the means to reinstate themselves in time.

I've never known you to be quite so extraordinarily naive about politics.

The dems can always repkace them with a few thousand voters from the cemetary. Or make a few ballot boxes disappear.

Oddly enough, the Obummer administration is denying Florida the access they have requested to the databases maintained by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to help determine who is a citizen. Are the Democrats looking to steal the election by preventing verification of voting eligibility?

Nobody has thrown citizens off the rolls...they identify possible violators, and they notify them with 30 days to respond with proof of citizenship. That would take me about 3 minutes to do. The problem is they are doing it less than 90 days before the primaries.

PS: Bill wasn't removed from the voter roll...he was just identified as a possible removal

Would I put it past either party to cheat the system and skew the election in their favor? Certainly not. Do I think the Republican (Democratic) party would push less (push more) to clean up the rolls if the discrepancies primarily existed among upper-middle class white voters over 50? Of course.

If you're going to restrict who gets to vote (and I think that it's obvious that there should be at least some restrictions), then you have to clean up the records periodically. Maybe they should try to improve the process so that it doesn't put an onerous burden on the poor (who may not have the time or the understanding to get the matter cleared up).

I think it's funny that you need an ID to get a welfare or unemployment check, open a bank account, fly on a plane, buy alcohol, usually it's needed to cash a check, but the second you have to show ID to vote, you are putting an undue burden on the poor and implementing class warfare.

I'm not saying that the current policy is putting an undue burden on the poor, but however policy is designed (and one is necessary), it only makes sense to make it as easy as possible for legit citizens to clear their names without grossly compromising the whole system. And it does seem a bit stupid to spring this on people shortly before the election.

As a Floridian, this is about registered voters that are registered illegally. There are thousands of illegal immigrants here that register to vote using fradulant social security cards. If they are taken off of the voter registration rolls all they have to do is go and sign back up.

It's not about ID, it's about what type of ID.

In Texas for instance, you can use your gun permit as an ID, but you can't use your state-issued college ID. The obvious point being that gun nuts are usually republican, and educated people are usually not.

Likewise, strict-picture ID requirements are detriment to poor people, who don't bother with licenses (can't afford a car) or passports (where the hell are they gunna fly to?). It's also a burden on older people who have given up the car.

Essentially the state has thrown them off the rolls, unless they (the registered voters) find out about this in time, and take the steps to reinstate themselves. This violates the laws in two ways (they didn't get pre-approval as the voting rights act demands) and they did it too close to an election.

The federal government should in no way shape or form give them any cooperation with this. Name matching for Hispanics is a major headache as anyone who's ever grown up in an hispanic community can tell you. Between using two last names, hyphens, and discrepancies such as De la Rosa v. Delarosa, the GOP just wants room to pretend what they are doing is legitimate.
