Default Aldo vs Koch now scheduled for UFC 153

Jose Aldo was in Brazil helping to promote the most recent UFC pay-per-view over the weekend. Now, it appears that Aldo will make his return to the Octagon against Erik Koch in October at UFC 153.

The event is set to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the same place Aldo last defended his crown successfully at against Chad Mendes.

The Brazilian site Zero Hora confirmed the news through Cashew Freitas.

Aldo-Koch was expected to go down in July from Canada, but Aldo pulled out due to an injury. “Scarface” is 21-1 in his career and has held the WEC/UFC featherweight crown since 2009.

Koch sports a career mark of 13-1, including a win over Jonathan Brookins last year.

Besides this event fitting into an injury timeline, I imagine part of the decision was influenced by the strength the Brazilian market showed last weekend paired with the string of screw-jobs they have endured lately.

On top of moving Andy/Chael I had forgotten until I noticed in the related stories that Dana wrongfully hinted during a press conference a couple months back that the Aldo fight may be moved from 149 to 147 but that never came true.

Anyway now we are left to wonder what will happen with JDS/Cain... possible supercard?

Koch will be destroyed ala Mendes. Its a squash match. But they gotta throw some sacrificial lamb out there and Koch is the latest.

Closer fight than people think. Koch is the best striker Aldo has fought and will be so disrespected by the casual fan that he could be a live dog

This should be Zombie's fight. That would be a huge sell. Erik Koch is very lucky Dana didnt wake up and smell the benjamins. Besides the money, Zombie has actually earned the shot now.

Makes sense to have this in Brazil. Good decision.
