So why would the White House release the photo of Obama with a rilfe but say one of the stipulations is that people not Photoshop it? It's like they're encouraging people to do it by even mentioning that. Silly.

That's not the version I saw from the White House. They said Obama is just like us gun-totin hillbilly rednecks, and they don't understand all the hate for him.


As for Chris Kyle, that's sad. He was shot by someone with a history of mental illness. When will they figure out the underlying factor on what is important?

you can't force treatment on people as it stands now, so legally we're kinda stuck. how would you go about this, (not trolling here) without trampling on their rights?

Over the ~last year I've read American Sniper, No Easy Day, and Lone Survivor. Not that I know Chris Kyle or anything close to it...just read a book...but his murder feels like a punch in the gut. Seriously, survives 4 tours in Iraq, and comes home and is murdered by some random schmuck headcase.

There was a talking head on TV who suggested using the public school system as an opportunity to psychologically screen kids...perhaps as they enter high school...a psych eval upon entering 9th grade, and then again upon entering 12th grade. The problem would be the same problem there always is with parents resisting "government meddling" with their kids health issues. And the notion of "mandatory" anything is a turn-off...maybe model it after the disease innoculation required to participate in public school, must present a shot record and a psych record to enroll?

A lot of mental illness manifests a couple years after that, late teens to early twenties.
