Are indie developers really relying on physical media? The kickstarter and indiegogo campaigns as well as Minecraft and Ios games tell me the Indiemarket has never been better off than today. I know for every Minecraft there are hundreds of games that fail, but quality seems to rise to the top most of the time with the exception of Japanese titles (but that is a different topic).
I was particularly talking about indie devs who hook up with publishers. Many new start ups had to hook up with publishers and get very one-sided deals. Indiegogo and kickstarter is a phenomenon that started, but the real impact of that has yet to be seen, in my opinion. In the long term... that is.

Part of the problem with Kickstarter as a whole is credibility. There's a big difference between Tim Schafer promising a new game and someone you've never heard of who might not deliver.
