I'm admittedly no boxing expert although I'm not such a newbie as some may portray me as. I love watching a good fight regardless of whether it's boxing, k-1 or mma. However, I do find boxing especially difficult to follow because of the infrequency of fights, the number of weight divisions, the number of "champions" and most importantly the fact that it's really difficult to find somewhere to watch these fights.

That said, I WANT TO SEE MORE. If some of our forum experts (ie. Lefty, dogofwar etc...) can list their favorite fights perhaps we can then use our internet expertise and try to hunt these fights down.

I'll start this thing with listing some of my fav fights of all time:

Corrales vs Castillo
Hopkins vs Trinidad
Holyfield vs Bowe 1 & 2 (three wasn't bad either)
Ali- Frazier II
Hearns- Leonard (the last one)
Hearns-Hagler

I myself liked Hopkins/Trinidad a lot too, thought it's pretty much been called a boring, or one-sided fight. Good call there. I suppose you don't mind if I just skip mentioning some of the great fights I've seen in that Corrales/Castillo thread, and just put some of them here?

So here are a few.

Smaller guys
Roberto Duran vs Sugar Ray Leonard (the first fight is a classic, and despite Duran quitting, I loved the second fight too)
Roberto Duran vs Iran Barkley (great fight from an older Duran)
Thomas Hearns vs Roberto Duran (a short, brutal fight, but worth viewing most definitely)
Roy Jones vs James Toney, Thomas Tate and Percy Harris (Best of Jones here)
Vince Phillips vs Kostya Tszyu (The only pro fight Tszyu ever lost, a great war between these two imo)
Terry Norris vs Meldrick Taylor (The smaller Taylor takes a beating, but I thought this was still a great fight)
Manny Pacquiao vs Barrera/Morales (Manny beat Barrera pretty bad, but lost a close decision imo to Morales, the latter was an awesome fight)
Aaron Pryor vs Dujuan Johnson (The legendary 140 pounder in action, this is one of the few Pryor fights I have, and he rules!!!)
Salvador Sanchez vs Wilfredo Gomez (You know it was a mistake for Fredo to move up when you see his face after this one)
Wilfredo Gomez vs Carlos Zarate (In this one Zarate moves up to face Gomez, and the result isn't that pretty either)


Heavyweight classics
Evander Holyfield vs Mike Tyson (the first fight was a classic, one of the best HW battles ever)
Evander Holyfield vs Michael Moorer (Pacheco etc. saying Holyfield turns old in the ring, then starts dropping Moorer)
Michael Moorer vs Bert Cooper (Great action)
****, anything with Foreman is almost always great (Ron Lyle, both Frazier fights, Norton blowout, the Ali fight, Cooney etc.)

Hey, I hope you didn't get me wrong, I never said Corrales/Castillo wasn't a great fight, it was most definitely, but many would disagree it being the GREATEST fight ever, and I doubt it makes to the top ten of most people's minds. There have been great wars fought in the last five years or so, like the ones I doubt I need to mention between Morales and Barrera, and of course Gatti and Ward.

Great thread. There are so many, but here are a few that come to mind:

Duran/Barkley- Duran at his most devastating. I forgot what weight this was held at but I remember very few people giving Duran much of a chance. It may have been light heavyweight.

Mancini/Kim- This was a surreal non-stop war. Tragically Kim lost his life in this fight. This fight caused the end of 15 round bouts.

Hagler/Antifermo 1- Two seriously tough bastards.

Hagler/Duran- Ditto.

Morrison/Ruddock- Morrison was hurt bad early, only to come back and level Ruddock with one of the most brutal uppercuts I have ever seen. It literally lifted Ruddock off the canvas where he landed flat on his back.

Hagler/Mugabi- Mugabi seemed unstoppable til he met Hagler. He was never the same after this fight.

Ward/Burton- All out war. A taste of things to come with Ward/Gatti.

Tyson/Holyfeild- I don't remember anyone who picked Holyfeild to win this.

Marciano/Walcott- My sig. I have only seen grainy B&W footage of this fight but its sheer brutality was incredible. When it comes to Marciano, I don't think a tougher man has ever lived.

Ali/Frazier I
Ali/Frazier III (I think that's what Tony Montana meant ... Ali/Frazier II was boring)
Holyfield/Dokes(both men come back from the dead several times in an incredible slugfest)

A lot of good choices. Arguello/Pryor definitely up there. All the Gatti/Ward fights. Ali/Frazier saga. Hearns/Duran, Leonard/Benitez. My all time favet though, by far Haglar/Hearns. Hearns bloodyed Haglar like the fight was 15 rounds. Haglar showed his toughness. Hearns, Leonard, Duran, Haglar, Benitez were all in similar weight classes most of their careers. They produced some legendary fights.

I'll add a few suggestions, basically, if you enjoy spectacular kayos, Hearns has to be one of your guys to look out for, his fight with Duran is stunning, possibly the best version of Hearns ever, by that I mean, in my opinion, he was a better fighter at junior middle than at full blown middle or above, everything was so together in his Duran fight, his speed and power were incredible.
Also, for any fan of big bangers, I'd seriously reccomend you look for fights featuring Julian Jackson, who is, undoubtedly among the biggest p4p punchers ever.
He has been criticized for his lack of finnesse and technical ability but with his power, he rarely needed much else.
At the very least, I'd definitely recommend getting a copy of his fight against Herol Graham, there are in fact gifs of this fight doing the rounds but to truly do it justice, you need to watch the entire fight, if you do get a copy of this one, I can pretty much guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Yeah I've found most of these fights from eMule. WEREWOLF, Duran/Barkley was at middleweight (160), and Duran was already way past his prime but still managed to decision the much bigger man in Barkley. Great fight. shuriken, great point mentioning Julian Jackson, he's very high when it comes to punching power in p4p, maybe the hardest puncher ever? His fight with Norris was fast and sweet.
